Garage door questions, answered
Everything you need to know about our garage door repair and installation services. Still have a question? Call or visit your nearest location Monday–Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM.
All ten North Florida locations keep the same schedule: Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed Sunday. Repair and installation work is arranged by appointment with the location during those hours. If you phone outside that window, leave a message with the door size and what happened, and the location will call back on the next open day.
Call or contact the location closest to you, or use the contact form on this site and name your city. Tell us the door width, the age of the door if you know it, and what it is doing or not doing. The location will confirm a date and an arrival window with you. There is no online scheduling; a person handles every request.
Do not try to lift the door with the opener, and do not have two people heave it up by hand. A door with a broken spring weighs its full weight, which on a double door is often over 200 pounds. Call your nearest location during business hours and say the spring broke; the location will move the appointment to the earliest slot it has. Springs are stocked at every location.
Once the technician has weighed the door and found the actual failure, you get the price on paper before any tool comes out. If a replacement door makes more sense than the repair, both figures sit side by side on the same sheet. Maverick Garage Doors does not sell service plans, add trip surcharges, or pad the parts list, and nothing is billed that you did not approve.
Yes. The Florida Building Code assigns a design-pressure requirement to every county, and a replacement garage door must carry a label showing it meets that number. Coastal counties around Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Daytona Beach carry higher numbers than inland Ocala or Gainesville, but no county in the state is exempt. Every door Maverick Garage Doors installs is labeled for the county where it goes in.
Often it can. Florida insurers use a wind mitigation inspection form that lists garage door opening protection as one of its items, and a door with a documented design-pressure rating may qualify for a discount. Keep the door's rating label and your invoice for the inspector. Ask your insurer what documentation they want, since the credit and its amount are set by the carrier, not by us.
Yes. Deed-restricted communities in The Villages, Deltona, and around Jacksonville commonly ask for the door model, color, window layout, and the manufacturer's spec sheet before they sign off. The location can put those documents together for your application. Submit them before the door is ordered so the approval is in hand by the installation date.
Steel cables, springs, and bottom brackets rust from the inside out in a damp garage, and the coast accelerates it. Insulated doors can delaminate when the skin gets hot every afternoon. Openers collect moisture in the logic board. The practical answers are galvanized hardware where it is available, a yearly maintenance appointment, and keeping the weatherstrip intact so the garage stays as dry as it can.
Sometimes. Summer storms across Gainesville, Ocala, and Leesburg take out logic boards regularly. If the board is the only casualty and the manufacturer still supplies it, the technician replaces the board and retests the safety reverse. If the motor windings or the travel module are also damaged, a new opener is usually cheaper than chasing parts. You will see both prices before deciding.
Two springs on the same shaft have run the same number of cycles. When one lets go, the other is near the end of its life, and a mismatched pair unbalances the door and loads the opener unevenly. Replacing both in one appointment costs less than two separate appointments and gives you a door that lifts evenly. On a single-spring door, only the one spring is involved.
Usually. Older wood and early steel doors use standard-diameter springs, cables, and rollers that are still manufactured, and the technician sizes them by measurement rather than by the door's brand. What runs out is matching panels for discontinued models. When a section cannot be sourced, you get a replacement door quoted next to the repair so the choice is yours.
No. You can schedule a maintenance appointment once a year, and most North Florida doors benefit from one before hurricane season starts in June. The technician checks spring tension, cables, rollers, hinges, and opener settings, lubricates and tightens what needs it, and writes down anything that will need attention. You pay for that appointment and nothing recurring.
Yes. Workmanship on repairs and installations is warrantied, and the doors, openers, and springs we install carry their manufacturers' warranties on top of that. The specific terms are printed on your written quote and again on the invoice so there is nothing to remember later. If something covered fails, call the location that did the work.
The technician gives you both numbers and an honest read on the door's condition. A door with sound sections and a rusted spring gets a spring. A door with rust-thinned bottom sections, a cracked stile, or no wind rating in a coastal county is usually a replacement candidate. We do not replace doors that have good years left, and we do not patch doors that are done.
